Accomplishments

In the past year, the Mentoring Partnership of Long Island, in addition to its normal activities, engaged in the following activities for the first time:

E-Mentoring:

The Mentoring Partnership is making available an E-mentoring capability for all existing mentoring programs on Long Island or any new programs. E-mentoring can be used as an adjunct to programs where mentors and mentees meet face to face or on a stand alone basis. The Partnership's E-mentoring software is housed on our server by our third party web services provider. All email passes through this server. Program coordinators have access to detailed reports that help ensure that communications are frequent, constructive and in accordance with program guidelines. E-mentoring can be used in support of friendship based programs or more academic, project or career based programs.

Mentor-Mentee Day:

In 2003 the Partnership held its first annual Mentor-Mentee Day. Last year the Long Island Children's Museum hosted approximately 100 elementary school students and their mentors for an afternoon of learning and fun. The Partnership hopes to replicate this celebration in 2004, with a goal toward expanding the event for more children and their mentors.

Golf Outing:

The Partnership participated as the primary beneficiary of the 4th annual L. I. Business and Tech Golf Outing on September 29th. This was the 1st year the Mentoring Partnership had raised funds through this kind of event. Plans are already under way for a 2004 Mentoring Golf Outing

Mentoring Academy:

The Academy published its initial course catalogue in 2004. The Mentoring Academy trains both new and existing program coordinators and newly recruited mentors. In 2003, we trained close to 1500 individuals.
